FAQs

The soap

What's the difference between the tallow and vegan bars?
The tallow bars are 65% tallow, with coconut oil and sweet almond oil, and they give a dense, rich, lotion-like lather. The vegan bars are 51% avocado oil, with coconut oil and cocoa butter. They lather more creamily and feel a little more like a lotion. Both come in the same five scents and both leave skin feeling soft.

What is tallow soap?
Tallow is rendered beef fat. It's one of the oldest soap ingredients there is. We use cosmetic-grade tallow from a specialist EU supplier.

Is your soap palm-free?
Yes. Every bar is palm-free, tallow and vegan alike.

What does "cold process" and "cured for six weeks" mean?
Cold process means we make the soap by hand at low temperature and pour it into moulds. Each bar then cures for six weeks. Over that time the water evaporates and the bar becomes firmer, milder and longer-lasting.

What's a 5% superfat?
It means we leave a small amount of the oils in the bar on purpose, which gives a softer feel after washing.

Where can I find the full ingredients?
The full ingredient list (INCI) is on every product page, under "Ingredients", and on the packaging. Our scented bars use pure essential oils, so they contain the natural allergens found in those oils, which are listed on the label. If you have sensitive skin, we suggest a patch test before first use.

Do you use colours or micas?
No micas. Coed Du gets its colour from charcoal and Pridd from pink clay. Twyni has oats added.

What do the Welsh names mean?
Awyr means air, Coed Du means black wood, Afon means river, Pridd means earth and Twyni means dunes. Together they make a journey from the mountains to the sea.

Using your bar

How long does a bar last?
It depends on how often you use it and how dry you keep it. With a good soap dish, a 100g bar used every day usually lasts around 4 weeks. Kept dry and unused, a bar keeps for years.

How should I store my soap?
Keep it on a draining soap dish, out of the stream of water, and let it dry between uses. Store spare bars somewhere cool and dry, and they'll keep their scent for longer.
